  • AI spinoff of the text-only classic
  • Hex-grid cave map with score and coin economy
  • Playtested and refined with real users

Overview

Built for Microsoft's "Hunt the Wumpus" game development competition (Apr–Jun 2024), where projects are judged on design, code quality, creativity, and user experience.

I created an AI-guided learning game inspired by the text-only classic Hunt the Wumpus, designed to give players a unique experience rather than a straight port.

Process

I designed the game mechanics, playtested with real users, refined the game based on their feedback, and delivered a live demo and Q&A to the judges.

Result

First place out of 160+ contestants. The game was later published on the App Store; it and Robot Rush have 800+ downloads between them.

Media

Hunt the Wumpus board: a numbered hex-grid cave map with a score counter, coin and arrow tallies, and Buy arrows / Buy a secret / Shoot arrow actions
